What is a major reason students do poorly in Mathematics?

Many reasons. Confidence, competence, comfort level with
material and present knowledge, following directions,
completing the tasks, not coming to class prepared, more
interested in socializing than learning. Not necessarily in that
order.

How can students get help with their homework?

Students today are blessed many sources that will help them
understand and complete homework assignments.

1)Students can access Tutor.com (as free service provided by
the US Army and CYS). I highly recommend the use of this site,
HS and College students receive live help 24/7 for many
different subjects.

2) Search the internet for whatever concept we are discussing.
Several sites use interactive visual representations of math
concepts to clarify ideas. I have placed a few good sites in the
links area
of my website.

3) Check the assignment calendar and student/parent connection
for PowerPoints that I have used in class. This will help them
review and recall subject matter discussed in class.

4) The Geometry textbook.

How can absent students keep up with the class?

This is a huge problem. Often times students do not attempt to
make themselves aware of what they missed and it affects their
confidence and ability to understand the math.

Missing class should be minimized, often an important concept
is discussed that is necessary for upcoming material. Without
the concept the student will be more confused. Of course, there
are occasions where missing class cannot be avoided.
Communication is the key; students or parents should e-mail me
as soon as possible to check what needs to be done.

Students should not assume that since they were not in class
they are not responsible for the information.

If a student is going to miss class they are required to access
the Geometry assignment area of GradeSpeed and my
webpage, to see what was missed.

Review any posted PowerPoints, attempt the homework, e-mail
me,talk to fellow classmates that were in class, or visit with
Mr. Miller before or after school.

If students return to class without at least making an attempt
to learn the missed information they will be lost and confused.
They will not get caught up by just attending class, there is
no time. Absent students should plan on investing additional
time to get caught up with the class. Without this effort they
will struggle and their grades will be greatly
affected.

Absent students will have time to complete assignments in
accordance with DoDEA standards.
