What is PTO and what does it do?
The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is an all-volunteer
organization which
works as a liaison between Stephen Decatur Elementary School and
the parents
to enhance the learning experience for all of our children. The
PTO engages
in fundraisers to help with cultural enrichments programs for the
students,
and provides the school with extra equipment and supplies they
may require.
Examples would be the books and texts for the Reading Counts
program, Audio-
Visual equipment, etc. All money given to the PTO goes right back
into the
school. The PTO also helps with many events, such as the Original
Artworks and
Teacher Appreciation Week, through the use of volunteers and
funds.
How do I join?
Joining PTO is simple: Complete a membership form that can be
located in the
main office in the magazine rack. You can also email us at
decaturelempto@yahoo.com and we will send one to you. The cost
is $10.00 per family and all money stays
directly in the school!
Are there volunteer opportunites?
Absolutely! We love volunteers, they are the backbone of this
organization.
Many of our volunteer opportunites are one time events, like our
Original Artworks or
the Carnival; however, if you are interested in dedicating more
time, there
are positions available for you to explore. PTO knows that your
time is
valuable and we encourage you to volunteer at your convenience!
Please contact us at decaturelempto@yahoo.com for more
information.
When are your meetings?
The board members (president, vice-president, treasurer and
secretary) meet
the 1st Monday of the month at 2:45 pm in Room 106. All are
welcome
to attend, however we will be holding general meetings
combining
school events and PTO news, such as Math Night. Children are
welcome to
attend!
