The Box Tops for Education program, run by General Mills, is a free program
that has handed out over $200 million to elementary schools since 1996. Our
school received more than $1450 last year. Participating is really easy:
clip the Box Tops for Education coupon off one of the 330 participating
General Mills products. These are products you buy everyday… Cheerios and
other GM cereals, Kleenix, Ziploc, Pillsbury, GoGurt, Huggies, etc. Send
them to school with your child… your child’s teacher will keep a collection
bin in the classroom. We redeem these Box Tops for cash from General Mills…
10 cents per Box Top, up to $20,000 per year! The only trick is figuring out
what to cut… each Box Top coupon has a dotted line around it with cartoon
scissors showing where to clip. Most have an expiration date, which must be
included on the Box Top or it is invalid. We also collect Tyson Project A+
labels, which are located on bags of Tyson chicken products. Tyson labels
are worth 24 cents each and the whole label must be sent in or they are
invalid. We made $120 with Tyson labels program last year.
Our goal this year is $1,500… a lofty goal at 15,000 Box Tops, but at the
last count of 400 students that comes out to 38 Box Tops per child for the
entire year. You probably have a few of the products that contain Box Tops
in your fridge, freezer or pantry right now. Enlist help… this is a great
way for Grandparents, relatives and friends to donate to our school without
spending any money since these are products they are buying anyway! This
program is only available to elementary schools, so the parents of high
schoolers and preschoolers are good people to ask if they will give you
their Box Tops. It doesn’t cost them anything.
Several times a year the total Box Tops/Tyson labels for each class will be
totaled and the TWO highest classes each time will receive a party… the
second collection starts in February. There are two ways to view your
class’ progress: A poster showing class progress will be placed in the
lunchroom and we’ll also keep an updated list here on the PTO website
located at: http://teacherweb.com/AE/StephenDecatur/PTO/ . Good luck and
happy clipping!
