We are having a "lock-in" on Friday evening, October 10.
Students are going to be collecting state quarters this year and we hope we can end the year with
everyone having a complete collection. Every two weeks, we will bring extra state quarters and
traditional quarters to trade with each other. The trades will be one-for-one so we can reach our
class goal.
Next in-class coin exchange is Friday, October 17. Bring in plain or traditional state quarters to swap.
"Pennies for Peace" began Monday, September 22, sponsored by the fifth grade. We are collecting
coins to give to them to send to a project dedicated to building schools in Afghanistan. The idea is
if people are formally educated, they will see themselves as having more choices and less likely to
become part of a terrorist group or gang that tries to get power from threatening or hurting others.
We are off to a good start! Check under the couch cushions or in the car as well as along the
sidewalk or in your coin pouch.
The library is offering a Crafts time Tuesdays (September 23-October 21) at 3:30 to make things
related to Tom Sawyer, the selection for "The Big Read," which started Monday, Sept. 22. The teacher
is reading "Tom Sawyer" to us every day now.
On October 10 and 17 at 7 P.M., Tom Sawyer movies will be shown at the Library.
On October 11 at 1 P.M., there will be a one-man performance of Tom Sawyer at the Museum.
There is drum making on October 11 and 18 from 1-5 P.M. in the ANB Hall.
My goal is to have grades most up-to-date on Tuesdays. Students should have all work in for the week
on Friday, I will post most data by Monday with "leftovers" posted Monday night. After that, missing
work is recorded as a 0.
