Some info. about me

I have been a teacher for sixteen years, fifteen of them in Haines. Until
five years ago, I taught middle school science and natural history as well as
Spanish and P.E. Before coming to Haines I taught Inupiaq teenagers for
one year in a village school on the Seward Peninsula near Nome. I have
also been a substitute teacher in Homer and Anchorage in Alaska and Borrego
Springs in California.

What brought me to Alaska was my first career, being a Park Ranger. In Alaska
I worked in law enforcement and resource management for the National Park
Service at Glacier Bay, Katmai, and Lake Clark; for Alaska State Parks at
Independence Mine/Hatcher Pass and Chugach State Park; for U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service at Kenai River National Wildlife Refuge and Alaska
Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Before coming to Alaska I was a ranger
with the California State Parks in three parks in the northcoast redwoods and
two parks in the southern desert. I have patrolled on skis, snowmachine
and ATV, horseback and mountain bicycle, jeep, boats from inflatable rafts to
a 24-foot cabin cruiser, and on foot. I love wildlife, especially bears, and
huge open spaces.

Mission For The Class

This year our class will continue to explore the world around us both near and
far, to build our skills in math, reading, science, and writing, and learn
more about how we learn best. We want to keep our reputation as a congenial
and motivated class and find even more ways to interact with our community and
the environment. We want to be good listeners so we can learn from every
source.
