Thanks to all of you for coming to our Thanksgiving program! My class did so
well! They are all becoming such fluent readers! We will have a puppet show
program in December before our Christmas party on Dec. 17. The time will be
announced later!
Please have your child record all books read during the Thanksgiving holiday.
I am going to have a Christmas prize on Monday when we return for all
students who read lots of books. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO READ OVER THE BREAK!!
FYI........DIBELS testing will be in December, so we have about 2 more weeks
to work on Fluency. Your child MUST have at least a 68 on a passage never
read before to pass the test. On the homework passage, try to get your child
to read at least 90 words per minute since it can be practiced over and
over. Rereading is one strategy to build fluency.
Reading- We have begun Unit 3 called, "Around the Town." This week's story
will be Unit 3 Lesson 2 for the Imagine It Website. We are
reading about communities. Your child will be creating a
community booklet which will include writing, drawings, photos and collections
of things from the places you visit. The booklets were sent home on last
Monday.
Math-Students will continue to subtract with 2 and 3 digit numbers. Remember
to help your child study the Math 4 Today sheet each Thursday night. It will
be sent home each Thursday from now on, so that your child can review for the
Math 4 Today tests on Fridays.
Language- Week # 16 in DOL. Students will be writing a personal narrative
about a favorite Christmas memory. Please discuss this topic with your child
at home.
Science- Please send in magazines pictures cut out from magazines or printed
from the computer that show solid items, liquids or gases. We will be
creating a mural soon.
