No homework due! Your child does need to read in a self selected book and
record in the planner each night! Also, addition and subtraction facts need
to be studied each day or several times a week. These must be mastered by
May.

next to get to the next question.
After your child is done, he/she can do another one. Try to do as many as
possible this week. Some of the skills HAVE NOT been taught yet, but will
be on Think Link as it tests all skills. If your child doesn't have time for
a game, then don't click on start game, just click on the word next for the
next question. I will know when your child takes the tests throught my
computer. You don't have to tell me or print off anything for me.
HOMEWORK IS SENT EACH MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!LOOK IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK!!!!
Please read the explicit instructions so you will know what to do with your
child.
Each week your child will have a homework packet stapled together. It will
always include a top sheet with 20 spelling words and 5-7 vocabulary words.
During the week at home, please call out the words to your child to ensure
that they know how to spell the 20 spelling words. The easier words are
sight words which students must know how to spell by the end of 2nd grade.
The 5-7 vocabulary words each week will also be called out on the spelling
test and if they are spelled correctly, they will be worth 1 pt. each. If
the voc. words are listed in the spelling list, then those WILL NOT be
counted as extra credit.
Your child ALSO needs to know the definitions of the vocabulary words. The
vocabulary test will be multiple choice and will count as a separate grade
from the reading comprehension test.
A Fluency sheet will be included each week. Your child must read it to you
orally each night. You will record the number of words read. If your
child makes errors in the reading, please write the words on the back of the
sheet and help them decode them with you AFTER the reading. If they don't
know a word, please correct them quickly within 3 seconds but let them keep
reading, then after the reading, let them read the word with you. You can
time them several times and take the best time each night.
Your child will also be taking a reading comprehension test on the weekly
story each Friday for a grade. If your child needs to read the story at
home, the student reader may be taken home on Thursday night, but must be
returned to school by Friday. We will be reading it 3 times each week, but
if your child needs more practice, he or she can take it home!
Every other Thursday or sometimes on Friday, your child will be having a
DOL quiz on the sheets sent home that same week. Please study these
sentences with your child. Each day at school, we will be discussing the
errors and correcting them. Your child will be given a classwork grade each
week based on how accurately he/she corrected the errors. I will only be
grading one day on each sheet, but I will vary which days that I grade.
Your child DOES need to be reading each night for 30 minutes and recording
the title of book in the Chestnut Grove assignment planner squares each
night for at least 4 nights per week. This was recently changed from 5
nights to 4 nights, FYI. The planner squares have a numerical date, and you
are to record the books read for that date inside the squares. The planner
will stay in the 1" binder and in your child's backpack AT ALL TIMES!!!It
will be checked on Fridays PERIODICALLY.
