| Welcome to the Koala Class!
I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year, and I am looking
forward to having a wonderful year! You will be amazed at how much your
child will learn in the first grade. Please feel free to come and see me
about any questions you may have throughout the year. Please read the
following information to help answer any questions you may have.
Drop-off/Pick up: All first graders are dropped off in the back of the
building (East side). When exiting the vehicle, children must get out and
load on the sidewalk side. Resource teachers will be monitoring drop-off
beginning at 7:30 am each day. Children may go to their classrooms at 7:45.
Prior to 7:45, students will wait in the multi-purpose room. Afternoon
dismissal is 2:50. Your child will be picked up in the front of the school.
It is important to put your KOALA CAR TAG in your car window so that we can
have your child ready when you drive up. Your child will not be loaded into
a vehicle without the designated tag. This is for your child’s safety. Any
child not picked up by 3:00 will be sent to the breezeway to wait with a
teacher. Notify the office if you are delayed.
Rest time: We will not have a rest time in first grade. We will be resting
our brains during the day for 10-15 minutes during chapter reading, but no
resting mats are needed.
Newsletter: Every Monday, your child should bring home a classroom
newsletter and notes from the office. This will be sent home in the yellow
CCPS folder. The folder also will include any tests, work, and behavior
notes (if needed). Please put the newsletter on the refrigerator or where
you keep important notes.
Homework: Math homework will be given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday nights. Spelling homework and tests will not begin until the 2nd
trimester of school. Check your child’s take home folder every day for
important notes and homework assignments. Please monitor your child’s
homework assignments and return them the next day.
Lunches: Please put lunch money in self-addressed lunch envelope provided
by the school. Do not put other money in the lunch envelope. You may pay by
the week or the month ($1.60 per day). Since federal law states that lunches
cannot be charged, it is important to keep your lunch account paid up. We
would love to have you join us for lunch anytime. However, please give us a
few weeks to learn our lunch routine. Please remember that fast food is not
allowed in the lunchroom for you or your child.
Breakfast: Your child may eat breakfast from 7:15-7:45 am daily in the
lunchroom. If your child is eating breakfast, he/she may be dropped off on
the East side of the building beginning at 7:15 am. The cost for breakfast
is $1.25 per day.
Snack: Please send a nutritious snack for your child each day. Children
may bring a small water bottle and refill it throughout the day.
Birthdays: We love to celebrate birthdays! You may send cupcakes or
cookies for snack on the day of your child’s birthday (no items that need
cutting).
Parties: We have two parties a year—Christmas and Valentine’s Day. The
Homeroom Parents will be in charge of the parties.
Health: Good health habits will help your child do their best in school.
If your child has a fever, sore throat, or has been throwing up in the last
12 hours, please keep your child at home. All medications must be given to
the office. Be sure to complete a medication form and send all medicine to
the office when needed. Medicine cannot be checked in through the classroom.
Absentees: First grade is a VERY IMPORTANT year and children need to be
here each day if at all possible. When your child is absent, please send a
note explaining the absence. Please remember that a child who comes in after
8:00 is tardy, and three tardies equal one absence. Thank you for having
your child here on time; not only does tardiness interfere with your child’s
learning but other children’s learning as well.
Money: Please send all money from home in a sealed envelope with the
child’s name, the amount of money enclosed, and what the money is for on the
front.
Discipline: I expect 1st grade children to show respect for others, our
school, and me. Your child will be involved in developing our classroom
rules.
PTA: Join the PTA ! We want 100% membership for our classroom!
Class Website: Throughout the year, I will post announcements, spelling
lists, and pictures of what we are doing in class on our classroom website!
You can find our class website on the CCPS website: ccps.cullmancats.net.
