Homework in First Grade will consist mainly of reading assignments. At the
beginning of the year, the students will have phonics sounds and words to
review, as well as phonics readers to come home in their Book Folder. We
will progress to spelling lists, vocabulary lists and more difficult books.
We strongly encourage parents to read with their children EVERY NIGHT! We
will also have math homework on a regular basis. The Saxon Math program
allows the students to complete one side of a practice page in class, and
then to repeat the practice for homework. This often helps the parents to
keep up with the math concepts that we are learning at that time. Please

Spelling Homework:
Monday: Write words 5 times each
Tuesday: Write 5 words in sentences
Wednesday: Write given words in ABC order
Thursday: Practice Test and study
Friday : Test
All spelling homework is due in the red spelling notebook the following
day!
