Definitions and Explanations
* Literacy - refers to everything we do related to phonemic awareness,
phonics, letters and sounds, blending words to read, reading by sight words,
learning to read fluently and writing.
* Whole Group Instruction - any instruction done with the whole class. This
instruction is geared to what the majority of the children are capable of
comprehending.
* Small Group Instruction - this instruction is done in smaller groups,
usually 3-5 children. This instruction is geared to meet the specific needs
of the children - whether high, average or low. I will meet with small
groups 3-4 times a week, based on the groups' specific needs. Small group
instruction is used for literacy and sometimes math.
* One-on-One Instruction - this instruction is used mostly for students who
are performing below expected levels or at a very high level and need
additional challenges. This usually takes place during a 'free' time in the
classroom.
* Intervention - this instruction is for some students who need material
repeated or need much more additional practice to perform ay an acceptable
level.
