Wonderful Writing
This week, we will begin our work with Authors as Mentors. We will be adding
on to what we’ve already learned by discovering new ways write, using authors
as mentors.

Reading
Young Amelia Earhart is the story from the yellow reader for this week.
Please have your child read our assigned story on Monday night . On
Wednesday, children will be tested on concepts covered from this story. Our
vocabulary study will come from Tops and Bottoms. Focus words for the book
include: wealth, harvest, scowled . The children are continuing to work on
what good readers do this week as we read the book
Blueberries for Sal. This week our concentration will be on
representing text graphically. You can help reinforce the vocabulary skills
and comprehension strategies by using the vocabulary words in your speaking
for the week and asking questions as you read a nightly story with your
child.

Math
We will learn to write the numbers 117 and 118. We will identify events as
certain, likely or impossible. We’ll also be subtracting half from a
double. Our math tests will be on Tuesday. We’ll review what we’ve learned on
Friday with math stations.

2nd. Please send in some books (with your child’s name on or in them), and a
towel or blanket for your child to sit/lay on while we read. You may also
want to send some sun glasses and/or a hat, in case it’s really sunny!
