How much time should my child spend reading daily?
First graders should be reading silently and orally at school and home
DAILY. Research shows children that read 30 minutes a day have an
increased fluency rate than classmates who don't read daily. Encourage your
child to read fiction and nonfiction texts. Always follow up his/her
reading with comprehension questions about the reading. Model reading
fluently to your child. As children see your expression and phrasing of
words, he/she will want to be just like you. Most of all, show the 'fun of
reading' and how it is a necessity in your life.

When may I conference with you?
I am available to conference with you during my daily, scheduled PE time
(1:30-2:00) or after school. If you are concerned or have questions about
anything going on in the Peacock room, do not hesitate sending a note,
emailing, or asking for a conference with me. If you would like to speak
with me, send a note and we will set up a convenient time for us both.

May I volunteer in the Peacock class?
The Peacock class LOVES volunteers!!! Class volunteers
will be working with individual students on various reading and math
strategies while in the classroom. If you would like to help out
as a daily volunteer, please let me know. If you are unable to assist during
school hours but would like to help, there may be times I have 'home
projects' (cutting, stapling, etc.) you can be of service.

May I send a special birthday snack on my child's birthday?
Yes, yes, yes! If you choose to send a snack, please have the item/s pre-
cut and ready to serve.
