The Zebra Stripe

Phonics:
This week we will focus on the consonant digraph ph as in phone and elephant.
We will have a dictation test on Tuesday.

Reading:
This week in reading we will continue our author study with Eve Bunting. We
will use the book A Turkey for Thanksgiving to discuss questions. Good
readers ask questions before they read, as they read and after they’ve
finished reading. This helps us to think about our story and make sense of
what we read. We will also be using the book A Turkey for Thanksgiving to
learn the following words: wandered, lumbered, bellowed.

Due to the Thanksgiving Holidays we will not use the blue reader this week.
Please take the time to read with your child and discuss some of the ideas we
have been working on over the past few weeks like author’s purpose,
predicting, sequencing, and questioning.

Writing:
This week we will continue working with writing partners to learn how to
sketch pictures and how to add details to our writing through words.

Math:
This week we will learn to count with both dimes and pennies and learn to
count by both tens and twos. Please check the homework folder and go over
your child’s homework (side B) daily.

Social Studies:
This week we will look at the history of the Thanksgiving story and the
different people involved. We will discuss the perspectives of each group.

Conversation Corner:
Talk with your child about thankfulness. As we approach the holiday, try to
demonstrate this trait to your child through your words, actions and deeds.
Create a list of all the things you and your family have to be thankful for.
You might find that once you start … its hard to stop!

Announcements/Upcoming Events:
Dear Parents,
I am so THANKFUL to be a small part of your children’s lives. They
are such blessings and light up each of my days. Thank you for sharing them
with me! I am truly blessed! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break as you spend
time with your families.
		With a thankful heart,
				Mrs. Pinkard
