Fashion 1

Fashion Decisions Syllabus

 

Fashion Decisions is a course that introduces students to the selection and care of clothing and accessories for individuals and families. Course content provides  opportunities for students to explore factors that influence clothing choice, current fashion trends, proper care and maintenance of clothing, laws and legislation regarding the clothing industry, clothing repair and construction, wardrobe planning, technology in the apparel and fashion industry, and career options. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), an integral part of the curriculum, enhances leadership development skills and provides opportunities for community service.

 

I.                  Grade Requirements:

 

A.    Major Tests: Tests are announced in advance and will make up 60% of your grade.

B.     Projects: Projects are also announced in advance. Projects include research projects, lab construction, etc. Major tests and projects make up 60% of your total grade.

C.     Daily Grades: Each day, during the twelve-week term, you  will earn a daily grade. You can earn up to 50 points a week for participation and attitude. Homework, classroom work and other learning experiences are also recorded for a daily grade. Daily grades are 40% of the total grade. 

D.   Exam: There will be an exam for this course. It will be given on the regular scheduled exam date.

 

II.               Classroom Policies:

A.    This course will be $15.00 per trimester.

III.           Course Information:

There are 6 modules we will cover in this course. They are:

 

1. Clothing Decisions              2. Acquisition and Construction

3. Clothing Care                      4. Wardrobe Planning

5. Technology                         6. Careers       

 

 

Clothing Decisions

  1. Analyze factors that influence consumer decision-making practices in individuals and family clothing choices.

Examples:  health, age, gender, career, location, special needs, peer influence, economics.

  1. Assess personal/family needs across the life span for making clothing decisions.
  2. Analyze current fashion styles and trends.
  3. Judge clothing for quality, fit, and cost when making clothing decisions.
  4. Assess consumer information in determining the proper care for clothing.
  5. Interpret laws regarding the clothing and fashion industry.
  6. Select appropriate clothing bases on fiber content and care requirements.

 

Acquisition and Construction

  1. Analyze sources for acquiring clothing to meet individual and family needs.

·         Shopping malls/strip malls

·         Specialty shops

·         Outlets

·         On-line/mail order

·         Custom-made

·         Television shopping

  1. Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of equipment.
  2. Demonstrate ways to recycle, repair, construct, and alter clothing and accessories.

 

Clothing Care

  1. Demonstrate correct procedures to care for clothing.

·         Laundering

·         Stain removal

·         Dry cleaning

·         Storing

 

Wardrobe Planning

  1. Analyze personal wardrobe when planning clothing purchases.
  2. Select clothing to meet the needs and functions across the life span.

 

Technology

  1. Utilize technology that reflects current trends and practices in the apparel and fashion industry.
  2. Assess the impact of technology on fashion.

 

Careers

     16. Analyze career options and entrepreneurial opportunities in fashion and textiles.

 

IV.             FCCLA

Each class member is considered a local member of FCCLA. To join the State and National associations, you must pay $15 for membership dues. By paying dues, you become eligible for attending major functions and competing in STAR Events. All activities you are eligible for will be explained during class. You will also receive an FCCLA T-shirt when you pay your dues.
