CULLMAN HIGH SCHOOL – ENGLISH 12 - PI

2008-2009 SYLLABUS - MRS. PUTMAN

 

GOALS & OBJECTIVES:  To improve student’s ability to think clearly, read effectively, write coherently, analyze logically, research successfully, and reflect regularly. Course uses language & reading objectives for 12th grade English in Alabama Course of Study: English Language Arts & the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.

 

TEXTBOOKS:  Grammar and Language Workbook; Literature: The Reader’s Choice:  British Literature; & Vocabulary Workshop – Level G.

 

NOVELS & SUPPLIES:  Must acquire copy of Night by Elie Wiesel. Supplies: flash drive & wide ruled paper.

 

GRADING:  Homework & daily grade 20%; essays, Grammar & literature tests 60%; and Vocabulary Tests 20% = Final grade.  Make-up tests / work missed when absent are to be completed upon returning ASAP (unless serious illness) – student’s responsibility. Essays count double (100 pts. each) as major test grades.

 

CLASSROOM POLICIES & RULES:   Students are expected to follow CHS dress code, academic conduct & attendance policy listed in CHS Student Handbook. Please show respect for others, respect for self, & respect for classroom & school property.  Students have up to 3 days to make-up tests and homework missed when absent (unless serious illness).  Students are welcome to come to me with any concerns about grades or subject matter.
