CULLMAN HIGH SCHOOL – ENGLISH 11 PI

2008-2009 SYLLABUS – MRS. PUTMAN

 

GOALS & OBJECTIVES:  To improve student’s ability to think clearly, read effectively, write coherently, analyze logically, research successfully, and reflect regularly.  Course uses language and reading objectives for 11th grade English in Alabama Course of Study: English Language Arts and Alabama High School Graduation Exam.

 

TEXTBOOKS:   Grammar and Language Workbook; The Reader’s Choice:  American Literature 1900 to the Present; and Vocabulary Workshop – Level F.

 

NOVELS & SUPPLIES:  Must acquire copies of: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne for Trimester A.  Supplies: flash drive & wide ruled paper.

 

GRADING: Homework / Daily Work grade 20%; Grammar tests, all Essays, and Literature tests 60%, Vocabulary tests 20% = Final Grade.  Remember all essays count double (100 points each).

 

CLASSROOM POLICIES & RULES:   Students are expected to follow CHS dress code, academic conduct & attendance policy listed in CHS Student Handbook. Please show respect for others, respect for self, & respect for classroom & school property.  Students have up to 3 days to make-up tests and homework missed when absent (unless serious illness).  Students are welcome to come to me with any concerns about grades or subject matter.
