Syllabus Course Name: Introduction to Carpentry (Part 1 and Part 2) Instructor: Hayden Faulk Program Goals: This program is designed to present students with the basic knowledge of carpentry training. The goal of this program is to teach students the necessary skills needed to be successful in the workforce, such as safety, measurement, hand tools, employability skills, communication skills, and teamwork. When students complete this program, they will be ready to advance into the next level of training. This program will adapt to special needs students as much as possible. Course Description: Introduction to Carpentry is a one credit course designed to provide students with basic knowledge and skills of the Carpentry program. Emphasis is placed on safety, tools of the trade, blueprint reading, measuring, estimating, and the use of computers. Students have the opportunities to use, inspect, clean, and operate portable and stationary power equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to perform basic carpentry task. Course Goals: Students will be involved in classroom training as well as hands on training. Application of this training is necessary to help students retain the knowledge that has been taught to them. This course expands students critical thinking skills, use of scientific methods, integration of technology, development of leadership skills, and application of knowledge and skills related to practical questions and problems. The students are introduced to SkillsUSA, which is a student organization for Career/Technical programs. This is part of the curriculum and helps develop leadership skills in students. Suggested Grade Level: 9th and 10th 1 Credit Instructional Philosophy: I expect students to behave in such a manner that is conducive to the learning environment. I expect students to show myself and fellow students respect. Students must follow the rules and regulations for behavior, attendance, make-up work and dress code set by the Cullman City School Board and Course Objectives/ Outline: Students will be able to perform at a minimum the following standards: * Orietation * Safety * Hand Tools * Portable Power Tools * Power Equipment * Materials * Blueprint Course Assessment: Each assignment, test, quiz, shop/lab activity is worth 100 points each. The following areas will be evaluated. · Various tests and quizzes · Class participation · Class work · Shop/lab participation/projects Course Fee:
. $ 10.00 per semester SkillsUSA Dues:
$ 17.50 per year if a student chooses to join. Materials Needed: Notebook with paper and #2 pencils (daily) Students will be required to furnish a pair of Z87 approved safety glasses. No dark tinted glasses will be allowed. Students are not allowed to wear open toed shoes in the lab/shop. Students who do not follow this rule will not be allowed to participate in lab/shop activities.
Course Name: Residential Finishing ( Part 1 and Part 2 ) Instructor: Hayden Faulk Program Goals: The goal of this program is to teach students the necessary skills needed to be successful in the workforce, such as safety, measurement, hand tools, employability skills, communication skills, and teamwork. When students complete this program, they will be ready to advance into the next level of training. This program will adapt for special needs students as much as possible. Course Description: Residential Finishing is a one credit course designed to provide students with knowledge and skills regarding the application of interior and exterior finishing. Emphasis is placed on safety, tools of the trade, blueprint reading, measuring, estimating, and the use of computers. Students have the opportunities to use, inspect, clean, and operate portable and stationary power equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to install sheathing, siding, trim, plywood paneling, drywall, doors, windows, and floors. Course Goals: Students will be involved in classroom training as well as hands on training. Application of this training is necessary to help students retain the knowledge that has been taught to them. This course expands students critical thinking skills, use of scientific methods, integration of technology, development of leadership skills, and application of knowledge and skills related to practical questions and problems. The students are introduced to SkillsUSA, which is a student organization for Career/Technical programs. This is part of the curriculum and helps develop leadership skills in students. Emphasis is placed on safety, tools of the trade, blueprint reading, measuring, estimating, and the use of computers, site preparations, concrete forms, layout, basic floor, wall, and roof framing. Students have the opportunities to use, inspect, clean, and operate portable and stationary power equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to read basic blueprints, layout building sites, construct concrete forms, and perform basic carpentry task. Course Goals: Students will be involved in classroom training as well as hands on training. Application of this training is necessary to help students retain the knowledge that has been taught to them. This course expands students critical thinking skills, use of scientific methods, integration of technology, development of leadership skills, and application of knowledge and skills related to practical questions and problems. Emphasis is placed on safety, tools of the trade, blueprint reading, measuring, estimating, and the use of computers, advanced framing techniques, stair construction. Students have the opportunities to use, inspect, clean, and operate portable and stationary power equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to read blueprints, frame floors, frame walls, frame roofs, frame ceilings, and frame stairs. Course Goals: Students will be involved in classroom training as well as hands on training. Application of this training is necessary to help students retain the knowledge that has been taught to them. This course expands students critical thinking skills, use of scientific methods, integration of technology, development of leadership skills, and application of knowledge and skills related to practical questions and problems.
