 Course description:  English composition provides instruction and practice in the writing of at least six extended compositions and the development of analytical and critical reading skills and basic reference and documentation skills in the composition process.  The course will include instruction and practice in library usage.

     F.  Avoiding sentence errors

II. Writing—typed

     A.  Narrative essay

     B.  Process essay

     C.  Comparison/Contrast essay

     D.  Argumentative (Persuasion) essay

     E.  Causal (Cause & Effect) essay

     F.  Literary analysis essay

III. Literature

     A.  Crazy in Alabama

     B.  Night

     C.  Boy’s Life

     D.  Beowulf (if time permits)

IV. Vocabulary: Units 1-7

V.  Videos:  appropriate to class assignments

VI. Final:  All students will take the semester exam

Grading:

essays, major tests (novels)                   80%         1.  Make-up work: before school

 pop tests, class work, etc.)

Expectations:

            No talking when the teacher is talking

            Always bring materials to class

            Restroom break—no permission is needed—sign-out sheet is on desk

            Late assignments—20 percent
