Welcome back!! Dear Parents and Students, Please become familiar with the expectations and requirements in Algebra II with Trigonometry. I look forward to working with you to make this a successful trimester. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: 1. The RULES in the handbook, as well as these, will be followed at all times. 2. Have RESPECT for yourself, teachers and administrators, fellow students, and other guests. This means you should respect their time, their opinion, their property, and their personal space. 3. BE ON TIME! When the tardy bell rings you should be in your seat checking homework or doing the posted assignment. 4. BE PREPARED! You should bring all materials to class- pencil, paper, homework, and calculator. 5. Have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE!!! GRADING PROCEDURES: Grades in this class will be determined by the following: Bell Ringer Homework Quizzes and Mid-Chapter Test Chapter Test Grades are computed by the ratio (points earned/points possible) Bell ringers- Bell ringers will be given every day. Each question will be worth one point. Homework – Homework will be checked several times a week and points will be given to each student who has completed the work. It is important to show all of your work. Just an answer will not be accepted as completed homework. If you are unable to solve a problem, leave your last attempt in your binder and any questions you may have. No credit will be given for late work. Each checked homework assignment is worth 3 points. Quizzes and Mid-Chapter Test – In short units will take a mid-chapter test and have no quizzes. In longer units we will have three quizzes and no mid-chapter test. Quizzes will range from 30-50 points. Mid-Chapter test will be worth 60-80 points. Test – Test will be given at the end of each unit of study. It is important to study the material on a daily basis for test preparation. Tests will be worth 100 points each. MATERIALS: 1) 3-ring binder 2) Loose-leaf paper 3) Pencils – no pens allowed for math work!! 4) Graphing (recommended) or Scientific calculator Make-up work: Only students with excused absences will be allowed to make up work. Students that are absent are allowed 3 days to make up any assignment including tests or quizzes. If students fail to make up work, they will receive a grade of zero for that work. Make-up test and quizzes : Make-up test and quizzes are given in MY ROOM each morning at 7:00 AM unless otherwise prearranged. If students do not make up a test, they will receive a zero for that assignment. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Algebra II with Trigonometry provides a more in-depth treatment of algebraic concepts presented in Algebra I while introducing several higher-level topics. Quadratic equations, function graphing, systems of equations and inequalities, and trigonometry are topics expanded in this course. Complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions and matrices are introduced. Statistics and probability topics include linear regression and applications of counting principles. Graphing calculator use is recommended for some concepts. Algebra II with Trigonometry is required for all students seeking the Advanced Academic Diploma. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1) Determine the relationships of subsets of complex numbers. 2) Simplify expressions involving complex numbers, using order of operations and including conjugate and absolute value. 3) Analyze families of functions, including shifts, reflections and dilations. 4) Determine approximate real zeros of functions graphically and numerically and exact real zeros of polynomial functions. 5) Identify the characteristics of quadratic functions from their roots, graphs, or equations. 6) Perform operations on functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and composition. 7) Solve equations, inequalities, and applied problems involving absolute values, radicals, and quadratics over the complex numbers, as well as simple trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions. 8) Solve systems of linear equations or inequalities in two or three variables using algebraic techniques, including those involving matrices. 9) Graph trigonometric functions of the form y=asin(bx), y=acos(bx), and y=atan(bx). 10) Solve general triangles, mathematical problems, and real-world applications using the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines. 11) Define the six trigonometric functions using ratios of the sides of a right triangle, coordinates on the unit circle, and the reciprocal of other functions. 12) Verify simple trigonometric identities using Pythagorean and/or reciprocal identities. 13) Use different forms of representation to compare characteristics of data gathered from two populations. 14) Determine an equation of linear regression from a set of data. 15) Calculate probabilities of events using the laws of probability. |
