Hello!

I was born in Bluffton, Indiana and attended Indiana University where I
received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. After a five-
year career in the Army as an Army Bands Officer, I became a full time Mom
and attended Jacksonville State University where I received a Masters Degree
in Early Childhood Education. I began teaching in 1992 at Kitty Stone
Elementary in Jacksonville, Alabama. I taught 3rd grade, music, and
computers at Kitty Stone until I moved to Cullman in 1999. At Cullman High
School I taught Chorus, Drama, and TV Production until August 2003 when I
transferred to East Elementary School. I received National Board Teacher
Certification in 2007 in Early Childhood Literacy.
I am a member of the following professional organizatons:
International Reading Association, National Council for Teachers of English,
Music Educators National Conference, Association for Supervision and
Curriculum Development, the International Society of Technology Educators
(ISTE), and the Alabama Educational Technology Association.(AETA). I am a
life member of Sigma Alpha Iota (International Music fraternity for Women)and
Phi Delta Kappa (an international association for professional educators.) I
am a certified trainer for SMART Technologies, Notebook 10 Software. I have
trained over 100 teachers this summer to use SMART Boards in the Cullman area.
I have two children- Mary Alice is an officer in the US Army
attending medical school in Washington DC; and Wayne, who is entering the
Army this fall. My husband, Alan, and I live on beautiful Smith Lake with our
two labradors Rosco and Riley.

My Important Mission

My mission is to create independent, life-long learners of concepts and
objectives as prescribed by the Alabama State Department of Education. We
will engage in activities that develop character, citizenship, and
scholarship.
We are "go-getters" for learning! Our focus is on reading, math, and writing.
We use those three areas as we study science, social studies, and themes of
interest. We are a student-centered, teacher-guided class. We will use
technology to improve our curricular learning, not just to review skills.
As 3rd grade students, you choose to learn in an environment that is safe,
productive, challenging, and fun.
As your teacher, I will guide you along a path of discovery, learning,
challenge, and necessary review.
Our standards and expectations will be high and it is our mission to reach
them successfully together.
Reaching for the Stars!!
