About The Teacher

I am originally from Guntersville, Alabama.  I graduated from the University 
of Alabama with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and masters degrees in 
Higher Education Administration and Elementary Education. I am a National 
Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and completed (and will never forget) an 
internship at Nancie Atwell's school, The Center for Teaching and Learning, 
in Edgecomb, Maine.  Truly, learning from Nancie Atwell was career-
changing.  As a former accountant, I have first-hand knowledge of what the 
world expects from our children.  In my classroom, I strive to create 
experiences for students that will prepare them for their future - reading, 
writing, working cooperatively with others, and developing a spirit of 
kindness.  Teaching is not a "job" for me - I consider it a great privilege 
to be in the company of children.

While in Tuscaloosa, I met and married my college sweetheart and best 
friend, Russell Raney.  We have two boys - Will and Josh - who complete our 
big, happy family.  What does the Raney family read?  Will cherishes 
anything from the fantasy genre while Josh enjoys books from the Boxcar 
Children series.  Mr. Russell likes reading cookbooks for fun (yes, we have 
our own personal chef!), and I enjoy reading biographies and professional 
teaching literature.

Mission For The Class

The mission for my classroom is to create experiences for students that 
will grow them as lifetime learners.
