Fix-Up Strategies

 
Fix up strategies are used to help students monitor their 
comprehension when meaning breaks down.  If a student is reading and 
something doesn't make sense, have him/her try one or more of these.
     reread
     read on
     read aloud
     read slowly
     check punctuation
     look at the illustrations
     look at special text features
     figure out any confusing words
     talk with a friend, retell together
     ask for help
