LINES FROM THE LITERACY LOFT

Homework Assignments

Parents,

Please remember how important it is to ask your child about homework every
night. Go over it with them to make sure they understand the directions and
check their work when they are through. This lets them know you really care
about their success and encourages good study habits. It also lets you
keep up with the lessons they are currently learning in school and lets you
know the areas they may need extra practice with and extra time from you.

Listen to your child read aloud every night and read aloud to them too. Let
them see you reading the paper, magazines, signs, recipes, etc. The GOAL of
reading instruction (and practice) is skillful readers.

Children love to feel accepted for themselves and praised for their own
unique qualities. "Good words are worth much and cost little." --William
Feather
