Ms. Thompson's Final Thoughts...

As I watch the 3rd Grade Memory CD, so graciously and beautifully put together by Mrs. Edmonds, I think of my year. I have grown to not only like, but to love these children. I cried as I watched the video, realizing that I will not be there teacher ever again. I had 180 days to leave a foot print in their lives. I pray that I honored God and their parents as I left a foot print that made them better people. I hope that they learned many things from me, beyond the book smarts. I hope they learned to value people and themselves, to believe in themselves, TO WORK HARD, that slow and steady wins the race...not fast and furious, to be respectful for all, and to think about it - be a problem solver, not to depend on others to solve their problems. Finally, to be "happy, happy, happy" - taken from Duck Dynasty.

I learned from the kids to be more patient (I'm still learning and growing in that respect myself), I learned that you can just mean to" just be a teacher" and not cross that line, but that somehow if you are a loving person on the inside, it's just going to be natural to love all kids and be both their teacher and a parent-figure. I, too, have shortcomings, and I love that they love me so much despite those. I love that they taught me how to look at things differently. Sometimes, they'd think outside the box and blow my mind...so, I learned that "I'm Not Smarter than a Third Grader". We all learn from each other.

I can't tell you how much the parents have meant to me this year! There are certain parents that I just can't tell you how grateful I am to you for alllll the many things you did for me OR the children. Mrs. Laney, our room mother, had to really pinch pennies to make parties work. We didn't receive a lot of money in the beginning of the year, but she always made parties and goody bags happen. She even brought ice cream today, even though Connor's withdrawn and on his was to NY. She coordinated the best she could and never forgot me for any special day there was. Mrs. Mokhtari bought us a printer and supplied us with snacks during testing. Mrs. Dunham was always here volunteering, purchasing ice cream and snacks and just always ready to give me that very needed hug. Mrs. Edmonds, well...she was like a co-room mother. She made our memory CD and was always here taking photos, sending snacks, volunteering for field trips and taking time to decorate/coordinate the school's teacher appreciation event (which was GORGEOUS). Mrs. Edmonds also is a gentle, kind soul who I felt really appreciated me. That means more to a teacher than any tangible gift. Mrs. Jackson was also a co-room mother that was there with her beautiful smile, helping me on field trips and coming to help Mrs. Laney for our class parties. I appreciate all of her much needed hugs and gentle smiles on maybe rough day. Mrs. Caudle really stepped up to the plate in the 4th quarter and was a great help to me on our field trip and in watching the kids if I had to step away from the classroom; she was also present to help me during Field Day when I had to step away to take a group of kids to the concession stands. I also appreciate Mrs. Matthews, Kaylie's grandmother, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Edmonds, Mrs. Laney, and Mrs. Mokhtari for sending in snacks for the kids during testing. Finally, I appreciate all those mothers/fathers/grandparents who made sure their child completed their homework, studied for tests, and respected me. These things are what MOST helped me to get your children to the next level. Those that did these things grew the mos,t because I could TEACH and GROW the kids. Without this support system, I could not do as well as I did this year with this group. I know I may be leaving some parent out, but I appreciate you too!

Teachers always have their special day, but I like to appreciate the parents. I wish I had won that lottery so that I could take many of you on a special trip to show you my appreciation...unfortunately, the person in Florida won, so you'll have to settle for this special note instead - teardrops. Please allow your children to email/call/Facebook/check in with me in the future and invite me to their graduations/weddings/baby showers. I love your children like they were my own. You are all a part of me, in my heart.

SUMMER REMINDERS:

1. I read somewhere that students need to read at least three chapter books over the summer to keep up their reading level. Summer is a wonderful time to read! Consider taking them to the library for a library card. The library has so much to offer, and it's free!

2. Students can log onto IXL from a home computer to continue working on their math skills. They still will have their accounts. Students that are exceptional in math, may want to go to the 5th grade math skills instead. This will provide them with a challenge.

3. Links - they can continue to click on the links on my class webpage for other subject related websites to keep them busy over the summer.

THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DID TO HELP MAKE THIS A GOOD YEAR FOR ME. I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

MAY GOD'S FAVOR BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

LOVE, MS. THOMPSON
