Reading Assessment-We will use the Dibles reading assessment. These results will be used during the year to increase your child's reading ability. Encourage your child to read outside school. The more a child reads on his/her level, the better reader he/she will become.

SCHOOL PARKING-WE MUST ASK YOU NOT TO UNLOAD OR PICK UP CHILDREN IN THE TEACHER'S PARKING LOT!! Unloading or picking up your child in the parking lot not only hinders the coming and going of teachers (sometimes making them late in getting to classrooms or appointments ), but IT ALSO CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN DARTING BETWEEN PARKED AND MOVING CARS.

DO NOT PARK AT ANY TIME IN THE STAFF PARKING LOT!! If you see a place vacant during the day, it probably just means someone has gone to the bank or some other errand. Please leave these spaces open. The parking lot is for school personnel and substitutes only. Each staff member has been assigned a parking place. There are no extra spaces in the parking lot. If you have business that will keep you in the building for any length of time, or if you are chaperoning a field trip, please park your car on the street in front of the school away from the yellow lines. Police do give tickets during school for parking in front of the old school portion or parking along yellow lines. DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS. You will be TOWED. Please do not park on College Street between MES and MMS if you will be here after 2:00. Buses begin to come in at 2:00.

School Rules-Moulton Elementary will continue to follow the assertive discipline program. Over-all school rules have been developed that are for all the students. Each teacher has developed individual classroom rules for the year. You will receive a copy of the rules for your child's room from the teacher. The school rules and consequences are as follows:

Hall Rules

1. Walk softly in a single file line on the right side. 2. Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. 3. Walk softly up and down the right side of the steps, one step at a time. 4. Remain quiet-when necessary to talk, use soft voice.

Restroom Rules

1. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. 2. Clean up after yourself. 3. Remain quiet.

Sidewalk Rules

1. Walk at all times. 2. Remain on sidewalk. 3. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

Assembly Rules

1. Remain properly seated. 2. Be courteous and respectful of others. 3. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself.

Emergency Drill Rules

1. Total silence. 2. Follow directions when given. 3. Stay with your group or teacher.

Children should not bring personal items which are valuable or unessential for school work, such as pokemon cards, dolls, stuffed animals, toys of any kind, records, tapes, CD's, etc. without special arrangements by the teacher for a specific purpose such as read-in days.

School Supplies-School supplies are sold between the kindergarten & 2nd grade hall every morning between 7:35 and 7:45 a. m. They are not kept in the office, therefore they will not be sold during the school day. Please make sure that your child is aware of this.

School T-Shirts-We have school T-shirts for sale. We encourage students to wear the T-shirts on field trips for safety. We also want them to wear them for assemblies & program as well as other special days to show "school spirit".

Student Messages-Please be sure your child knows where he/she is supposed to go or what to do after school (ride bus, be picked up, or walk). So many times children are left at school when they thought they were going to be picked up, but instead were supposed to ride the bus. ALWAYS SEND A NOTE TO THE TEACHER. We never allow a child to change his/her usual dismissal procedures without a note!! We realize that emergencies can change plans and you may have to call and change your child's instructions. If so, follow instructions in the above "How To Phone" section. We deliver student messages at the end of the day. However, if you give a child clear instructions and a note in the morning, these messages can be kept to a minimum. If your child will be riding a different bus than usual or going home with another child, always send a note for the bus driver or the driver WILL NOT let your child on that bus!

Tardy/Check-Out Policy-The first morning bell rings at 7:40 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50. Parents should come to the office with their child if arrival is after 7:50. They cannot enter the classroom after 7:50 without having been to the office. A member of the office staff will issue a tardy slip and record the reason for being late. Parents may not go to the classroom with tardy students or when they check-out students. This interrupts the entire instructional process if the teacher has to stop and talk with someone. Discussions with teachers must take place before or after school, or at their planning time. CHECK-OUTS COUNT AS A TARDY! Excused tardies/check-outs do not count toward the maximum number, but will be reflected on the report card. Excused tardies/check-outs include doctor appointments, sickness (twice only for morning tardy), car trouble (only once for morning tardy). LATE BUSES ARE NOT COUNTED TARDY.

When a child has 6 unexcused tardies and/or check-outs in a semester, the child will be assigned to one (1) hour of After School Detention for each tardy/checkout beginning with the 6th one. This will start over at the beginning of second semester. Please make sure your child has someone to pick he/she up at 4:00 by the front office, when he/she must stay for detention. The parent may serve the time in detention if they wish, since it is usually the parent's fault if the child is late or checked out for unexcused reasons. Children/parents who do not complete the assigned detention time will be referred to the county discipline committee. NO WARNING LETTERS OR CALLS WILL BE DONE!

Visitor Policy-We are blessed with supportive involved parents who enjoy being part of their child's school experience. We have an open-door policy for our parents to visit and volunteer at school as much as they wish as long as it is not disrupting instructional time. We ask that classroom volunteers sign in by 2:00. Unfortunately, we must enforce strict regulations for the safety of our students. We need the understanding and co-operation of ALL our staff and visitors to adhere to the following visitor indentification policy:

1. all teachers and staff at MES will wear picture identification badges;

2. all substitutes will wear badges;

3. all central office personnel will wear badges;

4. all visitors and parents between 7:00 and 3:10 will sign in at the office and receive a badge to be worn the entire time they are in the building even if the visit is very brief (this includes family and friends of staff);

5. staff will not allow anyone to come into their room or visit with them or students without a badge;

6. staff and parents will monitor adults in hallways and remind anyone without a badge to go to the office for one; and

7. staff and parents will immediately report to the office anyone who indicates refusal to go to the office for a pass.

Video surveillance will be used at all times. Persons who refuse to comply with MES and local school board policies will be banned from school property.
