We cover 1 story per week in the reading textbook. A combined comprehension, vocabulary, and skill quiz is given on
Wednesday for each story. In case of holidays, the schedule will be altered and alterations will be listed on the board in the classroom for students. Students will
take these quizzes on the comptuer. Typically, Monday is the heaviest homework night. Students are to read the
story of the week and answer the questions to go along with the story and study their vocabulary.
Spelling tests are given on Friday. One or two worksheets per week is assigned on
Monday and is due on Friday. Additional spelling homework may be assigned if scores are low.
One skill per week is covered in language. Students practice this skill Monday
through Thursday. A worksheet that is a good study guide should be coming home on
Tuesday. An assessment on this skill is given on Friday. On Wednesdays,
students have an extended writing assignment.
Students should have a book to read each and every day. If your child has difficulty
selecting a book, I have a page for Recommended Reading and have placed links to other
fifth grade reading lists on the Literacy Links Page.
