November 16-20
READING
We will review letter Ii. Last week we learned the short Ii sound as in igloo. This week we will learn the long Ii sound as in ice cream. We will be working on blending and reading words with /i/ in the middle. Here are some words you can have your child practice reading at home: Tim, sip, sit, zip, tip, pit, ship. We will review the sight words, he, for. These words have been added to your child’s ring cards. Have your child practice reading, spelling, and writing these words.
*Students will begin taking the DIBELS assessment starting on December 9th. Look for extra practice to come home sometime this week.
MATH
We will be discussing 3-D shapes. We will learn cone, cylinder, cube, and sphere. We will review 2-D shapes, hexagon, trapezoid, and rhombus. We will also continue to review numbers 0-20, counting backwards from 10, and counting forwards from 1-30.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
We will continue our AMSTI Unit on Balls and Ramps. This week we will explore the differences among balls. We will discuss the traditions of Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, and Indians. Please send in the item for our Thanksgiving Feast if you have not done so already.
HOMEWORK
Homework is in your child’s pencil pouch. Also, the kids are doing a great job with reading the books that I have been sending home. Please make sure they stay in the pencil pouch. I change out the books on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Have your child read their book once each night, even if they read it the night before. Sentences for your child to read each night are also attached to the homework.
REMINDERS
Thank you to the parents who were able to attend the Kindergarten Parent Day today. We were also glad you were able to join us for lunch.
Progress reports are finally coming home tomorrow. Please sign and return them.
Your child can wear their team colors on Friday for Auburn or Alabama. You can also send in any canned food for our food drive.
Thanksgiving Holidays are November 23-27. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!
