I am originally from Atlanta, GA. I am an Auburn graduate with a B.A. in
English. I obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching from Troy University in
Montgomery. I have been married for thirty-six years and have
two adult children. My son works for the Autauga County Technology
Department, and I have a daughter who lives and works in the Birmingham area.
First of all, I would like to say that I love Prattville High School, and I am
looking forward to working with you during the 2009-2010 year. I am entering
my twenty-third year of teaching English / Language Arts.
For English classes, my mission is to challenge my students while exposing
them to as many types of literature as possible. I especially want to
cultivate critical thinking skills. I want my students to value great works of
literature and to view them as a source for learning life lessons. I also want
my students to become better writers and to view grammatical skill as a means
of more accurate expression of ideas. The Advanced Placement Literature and
Composition course is in compliance with the AP English Course Description and
has been authorized by The College Board.
The Honors 12 English class is basically a survey of British and World
literature. We begin with literature from the Anglo-Saxon Era and go through
the Twentieth Century, with some emphasis on Twenty-First Century Literature.
Throughout this semester, these students expand their minds and come to
realize that being an educated person can be amazingly "cool." After they
graduate, they will definitely have the advantage, and finally, they might
even be thankful that they were forced to read Beowulf and Wuthering Heights!
*My basic teaching philosophy is demonstrated by expecting students to work as
hard as they can. I also require my students to be respectful to me and to
fellow students. I have a plaque on my wall that says, "Be nice or leave,"
which adequately sums up how I expect my students to behave. I try very hard
to be positive!
