Homework for Friday, November 13, 2009
Read "Ligea" and complete the handout on taking notes about literature. The
handout is not to be turned in, but for you to use as a study guide after
reading the story. You can not use the study guide for the test so be sure
to look over the notes over the weekend. The story is online under
handouts. Also, don't forget the persuasive essay is due Sunday night by
10:00 P.M. See the instructions for the essay below.

Persuasive essay due Sunday, November 15, 2009 by 10 P.M. DO NOT SUBMIT THE
PAPER ON RANDOM SCHOOL TESTING. I went over this several times in class.
Go online to my.hrw.com, type in your username and password that were given
to you in class, click online test assessment, click persuasive essay, and
select the first prompt on social promotion. You will find helpful tips at
the top of the page. I suggest you use the graphic organizer or the
paragraph plans we worked on in class in preparing for this essay. If you
would like a hard copy of your essay, type it in Word and copy and paste it
to the website. You may also type the essay directly on the page (but you
won't get a copy of it). Once finished typing or pasting your essay, submit
your essay. You will receive a grade within minutes on your paper. You do
not have to send me a copy, I will automatically receive a copy of your
essay, your grade, and analysis of your grade. Note: The computer will grade
on organization, paragraph development, and style. I will in turn check your
papers for sentence structure, grammar, and spelling errors. You must also
use the brush strokes and a variety of sentence types as discussed in class.
