Welcome to my webpage!  I am looking forward to working with my 9th grade
students and their parents.  I have also posted some of the handouts and
study guides that the students receive in class.  Also, please visit the
links I have posted for help with homework and research.  If you have any
questions, please feel free to e-mail me or call me at Prattville High

Vocabulary Week 1 Words

1. abbreviate (v.) – make briefer; to reduce (as a word) to a shorter form intended to stand for the whole

2. appropriate (adj.) – especially suitable or fitting; proper

3. brainstorm (v.) – a problem-solving technique that involves the spontaneous input of ideas from one person or many; a sudden bright idea

4. characteristic (n.) – a distinguishing trait, quality, or property; revealing, distinguishing, or typical of the individual character

5. conclusion (n.) – a judgment or opinion formed after thought; an outcome

6. discuss (v.) – to talk or write about; consider the pros and cons of

7. foreshadow (v.) – the use of clues by the author to prepare readers for events that will happen later in a story

Put a header with your last name and page number on each page. Write the number and prompt at the top of each page. Do not write on the back of the paper; if you write more than one page, continue on a new sheet of paper. You will have 10 minutes at the beginning of each class to respond to the prompt. You are expected to write quietly and not disturb others, or points will be deducted from your journal grade.

2. Read “Sound of Thunder” on p. 219 in Holt Reader (under your desk) and answer questions on p. 238 and 239, only write the answers.

I will not accept rough drafts that have not cited sources in paper or do not have a works cited page. Without cited your sources or providing a works cited page, you have plagiarized your paper.
