How often do students have homework?

Algebra 2
It is a very rare exception that a student does not have
homework. Please see the assignment sheet that contains book
assignments for the year. Other projects may added.

Geometry A
These student have homework fairly often, but sometimes it is
possible to finish assignments in class. Since this is a slower
paced class, more class time is frequently available to them for
assignments. PLEASE MONITOR STI to ensure your student is
maintaining his/her assignments.

Will students receive a review for the final?

Students will receive a review sheet(s) which will be due by the
day of the exam. It is worth up to 10 bonus points towards the
final exam grade. Students must show work on the problems to
receive the full 10 points. Please monitor that your student has
really completed this review.

How do you grade?

In mathematics, we are trying to help students learn to analyze
and think through processes. I expect to see work shown as to
HOW a student solves a problem. Please encourage your student to
show all work to justify final answers. In other words,
the "answer" is not the final answer, but the PROCESS in which
the student uses to get a final answer. To receive credit,
a process must be shown as mastered.

Is my child allowed to go to the bathroom?

I prefer to take a class bathroom break. This helps a child to
be in the classroom at all times when teaching occurs. If your
child really is unable to wait until we go as a class, he/she
needs to let me know. I will work will a student as long as they
do not take advantage of the situation.

Are food and drink allowed in the classroom?

Food and drinks are considered a privilege in my room. With
privilege comes responsiblity. Students must help maintain a
clean environment in the classroom. As long as the classroom
stays clean and students do not leave trash, food, etc. then they
are permitted to have drinks and simple snacks. Please have
drinks with closed lids or screw tops to alleviate spills.
(Yes, I keep cleaning supplies if an accident does occur!) I
usually have 4th lunch which makes a long time for students to go
without eating.

Are comfort station supplies available?

I try to keep comfort/hygiene items available for my students.
Bandages, tissues, hand sanitizer, safety pins, lint brush, Shout
wipes, female products, etc. You name it, I may have it! I never
know what a teen may need so I try to be prepared to help if I
can!
