Announcements

WE had a GREAT THANKSGIVING FEAST ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20,2009. Thank you to
all the parents who sent food and/or came to help with the festivities during
this special event.

The week after Thanksgiving, we will have a review week. We will have our
Unit Reading Assessment, and report card testing that will be going on that
week. We will also be reviewing our letters Ss, Ii, Tt, Aa, Mm, Cc, Pp. We
will also be introducing the letters Bb and Nn during the weeks to follow,
before we get out for Christmas Holidays.

In Language Arts and Social Sciences:
We are learning about a garden. All the animals in the garden say the garden
belongs to them. We are discussing...who's garden is it?

We are studying the letter Ii. When we introduce a vowel in this
Reading Series, we will study the vowel for two weeks. Encourage your child
to find words that have the /i/ sound as you read books with them at home.
Now that we have introduced two VOWELS....THE VOWELS "A" and "I" ...WE CAN
MAKE SOME SMALL WORDS LIKE SIT, PIT, TIP,CAT, CAP, PAM, PAT, TAP, SAP, TAM,
MAT, SAT, SAM, ETC. Your children are doing a fabulous job recognizing these
words and learning how to sound them out and create new words.

We have learned LOTS OF AMAZING WORDS...PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD PRACTICE
THESE...I, am, a, little, the , to , have, is , like, my, we, he , for.

In Math:
We are learning about SHAPES...such as rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, circle,
hexagon, square, oval, triangle.

In Social Sciences:
We are studying about The First Thanksgiving. We are enjoying reading the
chapter book "Thanksgiving on Thursday" --it is from The Magic Treehouse
Series of chapter books. We finished "Thanksgiving on Thursday" on November
20, 2009. What a great ending to a turkey-riffic book! Ask your child about
the story.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Day and enjoy your week of
holidays.
