Homework

 
Phoneme segmentation is the splitting apart and identification of all
individual sounds in a word.  Have your child count the number of sounds in a
word.  Say each word slowly as children listen for, tap out, and count the
number of sounds(phonemes) they hear.  Remember to have children repeat the
individual sounds they hear, not letter names.

Tap to the Sounds
Materials
* sticks             * small objects(watch, cup, leaf)
* paper bag          
1. Place objects in a bag.  Give each child a set of sticks.
2.  Pull objects out of the bag one at a time.  Have children tap the sticks
for every sound they hear.  


Eat Your Words
*paper towels         *fish crackers, raisins, small candies
* words that have a consonant, vowel, consonant

1.  Say a word.  Have children move food pieces to form a horizontal line, one
for each sound that they hear.  
2.  Have each child sweep his/her finger under the food line and blend the
sounds together to say the word.
3.  Repeat the word slowly as children eat the food piece representing each sound.
