Miss Besteda in a Nutshell...

According to the American Heritage Dictionary (2000), a professional is
defined as a person who is “a skilled practitioner; an expert”. As a
professional, I am constantly trying to gain knowledge about my profession—
education. In doing so, I continue to attend professional development
workshops when available. I immerse myself in educational resources that
includes, but are not limited to, literature and research. I am a teacher to
my students. I facilitate their learning as they construct knowledge through
manipulation of objects and materials building upon prior knowledge and
background experiences. I am a friend, listener, and counselor.
In this profession, I have to put my students needs in perspective
identifying each one as a separate individual with varying needs. With the
parents, I am a rapport builder. I let the parents know that we are in this
together—a team.
I’ve been anticipating the moment of becoming an educator every since I
was a child. I’ve always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others,
and what other way than becoming an educator. Doctors, lawyers, policemen,
and others need an education to do what they do. I feel that this is an
important job, and you have to have the heart and patience to do it. I have
both when it comes to my students, what they need, and what I’m giving them.
These are the main reasons why I entered the profession.
I know that I am an effective educator in this profession. I take me
out of the equation when I step into the classroom. I make sure that I am
giving them what they need regardless of how I may feel or what I’m going
through. I make sure that I'm aware of the latest research. I ask questions
when I don’t understand things. I also share ideas with my colleagues to
make sure that my students are not lacking in their development.
I expect my colleagues to be supporters. We encourage one another and
help out when and where we can. We attend workshops together; we share
approaches and techniques to determine what works best in the class or for a
particular student.
I encourage my students to believe in themselves like I do. I educate
them to believe that they are readers and writers. I encourage them to never
say, “I can’t”. I expect them to treat others the way they want to be
treated and ask questions when they do not understand something. I also
encourage my students to let me know how they feel. I want to know if
they’re having a good day and what makes it good. I want them to always know
that I care about them, their education, and their feelings.
All in all, as a professional in the education field, I believe in the
saying “the more you know the more you grow”. I try to further educate
myself to educate the ones who cross my path. I feel sanguine about what I’m
doing. Throughout this journey,I want to keep learning and growing to
provide the same opportunities for my students.
I am a 04 graduate from Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette
Alabama with an Associates in Science in Elementary Education cum laude,an
Associates in Science in Business Administration cum laude, and an
Associates in Arts in General Studies cum laude. I also have a Bachelor of
Science degree in Education from Auburn University Montgomery (AUM), cum
laude 06. I obtained a Master's degree in Elementary Education on 15
December 07.
I'm also a proud member of the United States Air Force Reserves. I
served 4 months in Balad, Iraq at the end and beginning of fiscal year 08.

My mission for my class...

To obtain success!!!

Understanding that success can be measured differently for different
individuals.
