Mission For The Class

Goals:
As educators, our primary goal is to guide a child's development, and at
Springwood that entails "mind, body, and spirit". I hope that when a child
leaves my class, he or she is more capable and self-confident not only
intellectually, but personally and socially as well. Our students need to be
encouraged to participate in and appreciate our local communities, and I try
to instill in them a sense of environmental stewardship and historic
preservation. Hopefully, many of our students will one day choose our area
to raise their children and become the Valley's next generation of leaders!
Finally, middle-schoolers are just beginning to broaden their horizons, and I
encourage them to begin to discover themselves and their role in their
school, community, and world!

Philosophy toward education:
I believe that children learn best when they are immersed in the subject
matter. To reach this age group, I use a variety of engaging
instructional strategies: reading a vatiety of informational/historical
fiction texts; creative writing; drama; simulations; art projects; music and
dance; accessing computer technology; etc. I try to find a way to make
learning the subject at hand fun and memorable. If a student enjoys what he
or she is learning, he or she is more apt to recall that knowledge in Jr.
High or High School, and have a more positive attitude toward learning in
general.
