FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Four dollars per person. Adults pay too. Absolutely. However, some building coordinators prefer parents to attend a parent meeting instead of the child's sharing session. May we come just to hear the author? Oh my! You would miss half the fun! There are refreshments, book sales, and edu-tainment options. Conference attendees recieve certificates during their sharing sessions. Can my child come if her school is not participating? Of course. Check again with the school librarian. Often if a parent shows interest, teachers and principals rise to the occasion. Your interest will encourage others to attend. Can home schoolers participate? By all means. The Young Authors' Conference is open to children who bring an original writing sample to share. The child's book is proof read, polished, and often illustrated and bound by the child himself. How long does the conference last? The Conference starts at 9:00 and lasts until noon. Schedules vary from building to building. After you send in your registration, you will receive details. The welcome station at each building is manned beginning at 8 am so schools can pick up registration packets. How many students may we send? Send 75 students --from Kindergarten to 8th grades. But of course! Spread the word to anyone you think might be interested. Who are the sponsors for the Conference? UAB's School of Education, Alabama Young Authors' Conference Steering Committee, Birmingham Area Reading Council, Over the Mountain Reading Council, Red Mountain National Writing Project, UAB School of Education Alumni Society The conference will be held in the Education Building this April. |
