WORLD WAR II INDEPENDENT PROJECT
The 4th graders are currently studying WWII and Anne Frank and her family.
It is now time to begin the GT independent project.
Each 4th grade GT student will be researching a person, an event, or a
battle that took place during WWII. No one will have the same subject so
think of at least 3 subjects you would like to research. Maybe when you did
your interview something came up that caught your interest.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. TRIFOLD BOARD--be sure your board has your subject at the top in neat
letters. Your board should measure approximately 36 inches tall and 47-48
inches wide. Include on your board:
#10 fact cards about your subject
#About YOU page with your picture on it
#Drawing or picture of person or place
#Poem (either a cinquain or acrostic or another kind of poem--poems
don't always have to rhyme.)
#Any other information that is important. Your board should be full with
very little empty space, neat, attractive, creative, and informational.
2. REPORT---It can be written or typed. Be sure you include a bibliography
at the end of your report. You should use at least 3 sources (not just
the internet)...book, encyclopedia, atlas, etc.
3. ORAL REPORT--given to the class. Use note cards. Don't just read your
report to the class. Also explain the things on your trifold.
4. PICK 4 OF THE FOLLOWING TO COMPLETE:
Diorama
Power point
Crossword puzzle
Board game
Jigsaw puzzle
Map with a legend
Mobile
Picture dictionary
Rebus story
Collection of songs from that time period
Make up an original song and sing it to the class
EXPLANATION OF SOME OF THE PRODUCTS:
CINQUAIN is a poem with 5 lines.
1st line--one word that is a person,place, or thing
2nd line--two words that describe the first word
3rd line--three words that tell about the first word
4th line--two words that tell something special about the first word
5th line--one word--same as line 1
DIORAMA--a 3 dimensional setting showing a scene. It is housed ina box like
a shoe box. Leave one side open for viewing.
MAP WITH A LEGEND--words or symbols to go along with a map to explain details
MOBILE--this can be pieces of metal, wood, paper, suspended on wires or
string and balanced for movement.
REBUS STORY--Write a story. Substitute pictures for some of the words in
the story.
WORLD WAR II PROJECTS ARE DUE AFTER CHRISTMAS BREAK---JANUARY 7, 2008
