Mrs. Simmons:
Mrs. Simmons has taught in the Farmington School System since September
1979. She taught 6th grade for one year and then 5th grade for seven
years. Mrs. Simmons became the Gifted and Talented coordinator for the
district in the fall of 1987. Currently, she oversees the K-1 enrichment
program, teaches the 2nd grade enrichment program, teaches the 3rd and 4th
grade pull-out program, oversees 5-12 programing, and is AP Coordinator.
Mrs. Simmons is married and has one married daughter, Nancy. She loves
dachshunds! Currently she has one rambunctious little guy named Buster. He
is the boss of the house. Mrs. Simmons loves to read and travel.
Mrs. Simmons traveled to Europe in June 2006 with her husband and her
father-in-law, a veteran of World War II. They visited Holland, Belgium,
and France. They had the good fortune to stay in the homes of people in
each of these countries. Mrs. Simmons also visited two schools in France.
The schools were so clean, and the students were very respectful. At one of
the schools, the principal and his family lived at the school. People in
all 3 countries viewed her father-in-law as a hero. He was in the army, and
he along with his comrades liberated this area from the Germans. Several
people greeted him with tears in their eyes. Mrs. Simmons hopes to return
to Europe again in May 2007 so her father-in-law can fulfill a long-time
dream of being at the Margarten cemetery in Holland for Memorial Day. His
brother was killed in WWII and is buried in this cemetery.
Mrs. Ellis:
Mrs. Ellis has taught in the Farmington School System since October 1987.
The 2007-2008 school year is her 21st year. She taught fourth grade for 5
years, second grade for 11 and this is her 5th year in the 5-8 Gifted and
Talented program.
Mrs. Ellis is married and has two children, a boy and a girl.
The Farmington Public School District Gifted and Talented Program's Mission
