Kindergarten News

Mrs. Nolan

May 7, 2012

Wednesday was Ms. Miller’s last day in our class. Mrs. Knott made us a special snack, her delicious cupcakes. The children made a memory book for Ms. Miller and I gave her some books to start her classroom collection. We enjoyed having her with us.

I am sending home the plants we planted. I can’t believe they have grown so fast. One side of the cup has lima bean plants and the other side has pumpkin plants.

Testing

I will be starting my final testing for the year this week. I can tell that some of you did the homework with your child each week. It did make things easier for your child in the classroom.

I am very pleased with all of the children’s progress this year. Some of them have come a very long way and have learned so much. All of them have become readers and writers and should make great first graders. Please remember to keep reading with your child over the summer. If you can’t go to the county library over the summer, just read over some books they have brought home during the year.

I will be sending home some books that your child may not be able to read independently. You will need to help them with some of the sight words. They should be able to sound out the words that have three letters like cat, hot, wig. Your child will be able to tell you which books they will need help in reading. They are very proud of themselves, as they should be, for being able to read these “hard” books.

Kindergarten Graduation

Just a reminder, as indicated on our May calendar, we will be graduating next Thursday, May 17th, at the high school auditorium at 7:00 p.m. We will be practicing up at the high school Wednesday and Thursday next week. We may be leaving the school around 8:15 each morning so please make every effort to have your child at school on time.

I will be sending home specific news about our graduation next Wednesday. I hope you found their graduation invitation in their folder today. The children have really been working hard learning their songs and they are doing a great job. This group is a great group of singers. Mrs. Smith says they are some of her best singers. It will be a very special night.

Beach/Summer Fun Day

Also the May calendar shows that we will be having Summer Fun Day on Friday, May 18th. On Summer Fun Day the children will be able to wear their bathing suits under their clothes. The children will be having lots of activities outside that day including playing in a sprinkler on the playground.

The main events for the day will be a jump house that our PTO has rented for all the kindergarten classes and an outside picnic at school. The children will need to bring a sack lunch and drink for the picnic. They can order a sack lunch from the cafeteria if you would like. I will send you more information on Summer Fun Day later this week.
