Date Spanish Course Information Sr. Golanski e-mail: dgolansk@ajusd.org phone: 480-982-1110 ext. 5285 Classroom Expectations •Follow all school rules. •Respect yourself, property, and others. •Remove hats and turn off all CD Players, Ipods, and cell phones prior to the start of class. These items should be placed in backpacks, and should not be visible during class time. I •Be prepared and ready to learn when the bell rings (book, notebook, folder, pencils, pens). •Bring water; other food items and drinks are not allowed. •Raise hand and ask for permission to talk or leave your seat. Consequences for not following rules •1st Offense: Verbal Warning •2nd Offense: Detention & Call home– Tuesday at lunch or after school. •3rd Offense: ICR & Call home •4th Offense: Office Referral If you are tardy you must report to sweep immediately, under no circumstances will you be allowed into the class without a pass from the office. If occurrence is severe, automatic OCS/office referral. Cell phones, Ipods, and CD Players will be taken away if they ring or if they are out during class. Students can reclaim their items at the end of the school day in the front office. Daily Procedures •Be in your seat and prepared BEFORE the bell stops ringing. •While attendance is being taken, read the daily objectives and complete the mindset posted on the board and have your homework out and on your desk. This is part of your participation grade. •Use the restroom and visit the nurse during your break, not during my class! •Ask for help by raising your hand or asking the person sitting next to you if you are unclear on an instruction-- do not be un-productive! Assignments •Only finished work will be accepted-- all or nothing. •Papers without names will be thrown away. •Homework answers will be on the overhead or reviewed in class. You are expected to correct every problem. If homework was not completed prior to coming to class do it during this time as the information will be useful in preparing for quizzes and tests however, you will not receive credit. Class missed due to Excused Absences, ICR or Sweeps •Ask me before or after class, after school, or via e-mail for make up assignments- do not ask me during class time. •Make up tests & quizzes are given on Thurdays before school. If Thursdays do not work for you, it is your responsibility to schedule an alternate time. •If you miss a quiz or test because you were in Sweep, ICR, or due to an unexcused absence, you will be given a ZERO for the test/quiz grade, and not be allowed to make up any work missed on that day. Grades Classroom Participation - 10% Homework - 10% Quizzes – 30% Tests - 30% Final Exam – 20% Total-100% Required Class Materials •Three ring binder with dividers to keep homework, lecture and project notes, and notebook paper. •Pencils, pens and erasers. •Spanish/English Dictionary Learning a foreign language is fun and very beneficial! It is important that you listen in class, practice, volunteer, and speak when asked. The only way you will learn Spanish is through hard work and practice. You should spend at least 15-20 minutes outside of class each day if you wish to truly excel in Spanish. I want you to succeed in the class and I am available to schedule a time to meet with you before school for tutoring.
