THE TOP TWENTY THINGS YOU MUST DO TO PASS THIS CLASS

1.Come to class prepared. Bring lined notebook paper (no spiral paper
accepted), pen, and pencil each day. Bring your AR book with you every
Friday.

2.Get credit for your work. Make sure you label every assignment with a
proper heading which includes your full name (last name first), period, date,
and assignment name.

3.Complete all assignments. Do every assignment as instructed. Be sure to
read and follow all components of the directions.

4.Listen carefully. Pay attention in class. Headphones, cell phones, and
other distractions are prohibited. Leave them in your backpack.

5.Ask questions. If something hasn't been explained to your satisfaction,
you must ask for additional information. I'm here to help you.

6.Show what you know. In order to verify that you understand a concept and
have mastered an objective, you must complete the work assigned.

7.Work to your potential. Don't shortchange yourself by doing less than you
are capable of doing. Always put your best effort into every assignment.

8.Turn in assignments on time. The English department policy stipulates that
late work will NOT be accepted. Due dates are given for a reason and will
be adhered to.

9.Do homework at home. Use the textbook issued to you for use at home. You
shouldn't be rushing to finish an assignment after I've asked you to turn it
in.

10.Make up all missed work when absent. The assignments are listed by the
door. It's your responsibility to read the list to see what you missed and
get the work done.

11.Schedule make up tests with the teacher. Make an appointment to make up a
missed test: before school, during lunch or after school the next day that
you return.

12.Use all resources available to you. There are many tools to help you be
successful: text book, dictionary, thesaurus, and other student supplies on
the window shelf.

13.Read! Read! Read! Read! Carry an AR book with you at all times,
especially to 3rd hour for DEAR. Also, bring a book to English class every
Friday for AR reading.

14.Think! Think! Think! There are many solutions to every problem.
Brainstorm ideas rather than remaining in a rut. Exercise your mental
faculties.

15.Be respectful of everyone. The golden rule covers it all: “Do unto others
as you would have them do unto you.” Just be nice to your fellow human
beings, please.

16.Do not use profanity and do not call others by offensive names. The
school has a strict policy against sexual harassment, racial slurs, and
profanity.

17.Follow all school rules. This includes no food or drinks, except water,
in the classroom. Also, remove your hat and put away all electronics when
you come inside.

18.Demonstrate integrity by doing your own work. Copying someone else's
homework or plagiarizing a writing assignment is cheating and will result in
a zero and/or referral.

19.Be responsible for yourself. You are the author of your own life. Be
willing to take responsibility for your own decisions and accept the
consequences which follow.

20.Remember, you earn your grade. It is a reflection of your efforts and
achievements in class. Don't do the work for me, do the work for you. It's
your future.
