Enriched English 12 Syllabus
First Semester
1. Novel [A Tale of Two Cities]
--Students will read A Tale of Two Cities (unit test)
--Students will submit a written book report
--Students will write a literary analysis
2. Ancient Cultures Literature Unit
--Students will study selections of literature from the ancient Sumerian, Egyptian, Hebrew, and East Indian traditions (unit test)
--Students will complete various writing assignments
3. Persian Literature Unit
--Students will study ancient Persian and Arabic literature (unit test)
--Students will complete various writing assignments
4. Classical Literature
--Students read ancient Greek and Roman literature
--Students will write a literary analysis
5. Ancient Greek Drama
--Students read the two Greek tragedies (Oedipus Rex, Antigone)
6. Vocabulary
--Students complete units and tests throughout the year
--Vocabulary is part of the Final!
8. Final – Semester test
--Students will take a test over information taught during first semester
END OF FIRST SEMESTER
Second Semester
1. Senior Research Paper
--Students do research and write a paper
2. Medieval Literature
--Students will study various selections of medieval literature (unit test)
--Students will complete various writing assignments
3. Drama [Hamlet]
--Students read Shakespeare’s play (unit test)
4. Formal Communications
--Students will complete various aspects of the job interview process
--Students will be interviewed
5. Poetry
--Students read selected poems from the literature book (unit test)
--Students will teach a poem to the class
6. 19th and 20th Century Literature
--Students read selected stories from the literature book
7. Vocabulary
--Students do units throughout the year
--Vocabulary is part of the Final!
8. Final – Graduation Speech
--Students will write a graduation/valedictorian speech
10. Final – Semester Test
--Students will take a test over information taught during first semester
