Classroom Policies
Classroom Rules of Conduct § No cellphones, music players, or other electronic devices. If you use one of these devices in class, it will be confiscated, and you will be sent to ICR. There will be no warnings. § Hats may not be worn in class. § No personal hygiene (ie. hair, makeup, perfume) may be conducted during class. Any such items used in class will be confiscated and may be reclaimed after school. § Students who throw any items of any kind will receive thirty minutes detention. § Please leave food and beverages outside. Water is fine. § Show respect for others and for yourself. This applies to the language you use, the actions you take, and the thoughts you permit. § Show respect for the belongings of your peers, your teachers, and the school. This means leaving their belongings alone and cleaning up after yourself. § Come to class on time, prepared with your homework, your materials, and your brain. Those who come grossly unprepared will be referred to ICR. § Students who step into Ms. Welch’s work area will receive thirty minutes detention. § All dress-code rules will be strictly enforced. § Complete your work quietly, allowing others to do the same. Failing to do so will be grounds for ejection from class. § Listen and participate.
Consequences Depending on the gravity and recurrence of the offence, one or more of the following consequences will be utilized to remedy violations of the rules: § verbal warning § 15-30 minute detention to be completed during lunch or after school § phone call to parents § ICR § referral
Materials Students are expected to bring the following materials to class every day: § AR book § Notebook or notebook paper § Three-ring binder § Folder § Pen and pencil
Grades and Weights In-class Activities / Homework – 5%
AIMS Preparation / Accelerated Reader (AR) – 5% Writing Assignments – 35% Quizzes – 20% Tests – 15% Final Exam – 15%
Policies § Homework will be collected and/or graded within the first five minutes of class. No late assignments will be accepted. § In the case of an unexcused absence or tardiness, assignments and quizzes missed cannot be made up. § In the case of an excused absence, assignments must be made up within one day of the missed class. This can be done before or after school, or during lunch by appointment. No make-up work can be done during class. § You are responsible for finding out what was missed in the case of an absence, and for making arrangements to make up assignments if applicable. § If you are in tardy sweep, you are responsible for turning in your homework to the sweep teacher. You will receive no points for in-class work missed. § All at-home essays must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font, with black ink, exactly 1 inch margins, double spacing, and a staple in the top left corner. § Plagiarism of any sort will not be tolerated.
