What is NJROTC?
NJROTC is NOT a recruiting program for the military services. NJROTC is a
citizenship, leadership program designed to develop informed and responsible
young men and women who value a high degree of personal honor, self-
reliance, self-discipline and respect for self and constituted authority in
a democratic society. NJROTC is a broad-based program designed to prepare
students for life after their high school career. There are two major
aspects to the NJROTC program – academic and extracurricular. The academic
curriculum expands over four courses of instruction and includes topics
inpersonal and organizational leadership, government, maritime history,
oceanography, several aspects of the U. S. Navy and
military life, military functions, navigation, physical fitness/health and
wellness, and several other areas. In addition, the daily practice of
leadership application is major aspect of NJROTC. Cadets assume leadership
positions much like any other business or military organization and manage
the day-to-day operation of the Unit.

What does NJROTC do after school? e.g sports
The extracurricular portion includes six competitive teams that attend
competitions against other JROTC high schools in Arizona and California and
in national competitions. These teams include Academic Team, Color Guard
teams, Precision Drill Teams, air rifle teams, orienteering (cross-
country/land navigation) teams, and physical fitness teams. NJROTC Cadets
are actively involved in various community service activities.
--------------------------------------
Any Trips?
We take field/orientation trips to military installations in Arizona,
California, and Hawaii.
--------------------------------------
What is the cost?
Nothing. All uniforms and equipment are provided by the Navy. Cadets
participate in fund raising to pay for other expenses.
--------------------------------------
Does the credit count for graduation?
Each year of Naval Science counts as an elective and 2 years of NJROTC
waivers the P.E. requirement for graduation.
--------------------------------------
I have heard that NJROTC is big at AJHS, how large is NJROTC at AJHS?
NJROTC is the largest single organization on campus and the largest JROTC
unit in the East Valley. We are among the largest units in Arizona. We can
accept up to 150 cadets at a time and currently have roughly 140 students.
--------------------------------------
Why do I have keep my hair cut and why do cadets wear a uniform once a week?
The school district has signed a legal contract with the Navy. Failure to
meet grooming standards or wear the uniform when prescribed would place the
district in non-compliance with the contract. NJROTC is an outstanding
opportunity for MOST students. However it is not for everyone-Our cadets
demand the best from themselves and each other. The district is required to
disenroll students who do not maintain contractual standards.
--------------------------------------
Do I get preference for college scholarships by taking NJROTC?
YOU BET! NJROTC cadets receive special consideration for scholarships which
currently pay up to $180,000 for 4 years of college. See your instructor for
the NJROTC nomination. ONLY CADETS RECEIVE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION. We also
are able to nominate cadets to the Naval Academy, West Point, and the Air
Force Academy (non cadets must obtain recommendations from a U.S.
Congressman, Senator, the Vice President or President of the United States)
--------------------------------------
I have heard that NJROTC is so popular that classes are full-can I get in?
We are accepting students for 2008-2009 with guidance office approval.
We are approaching our maximum authorized enrollment.
Any students after we reach the cap will be reviewed on a case by case basis-
please contact the instructor.

I am an AP student and am interested in college credit-Does NJROTC help?
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will award up to 15 college
credits for NJROTC taken in High School. These credits transfer to most if
not all colleges and Universities.
