2nd Quarter, Here We Come!
Learning Strategies: We will continue to use Cornell Notes with learning Social Studies and Science topics. This is a study tool that you will be using through the rest of your years in CUSD and can take on to college with you. It is a bit time consuming, but really helps you review material. We will continue to use Thinking Maps to summarize information.
Reading: We will concentrate on independent novel choices and discuss the elements of literature in them. We will also be doing a lot of factual reading in Social Studies and Science. The two book reports this quarter will a Foreign Country book and a Poetry book.
Writing: Our big writing assignment this quarter will be a research report about Egypt. We will also write lots of poetry.
Math: We will continue working on decimals, percents, and integers. We will also study geometry.
Science: Energy will be our first topic of study. We will also complete our Science Fair projects. All the work for those will be done in class.
Social Studies: We will continue with our study of the stock market. We started to look at Egypt before our break, and will delvel deeply into that topic with a research report and project. We will also look at world religions and do some comparisons between them.
We will continue working on personal accountability and responsibility for class work. These are such important skills to have as the students move on to Jr. High next year. Thank you for your support in teaching these to your children.
