About AR

Accelerated Reader (AR)

AR is a program Copperview will put into place to help our students become better readers as well as instilling a life long love of reading. This program monitors each student's reading level, appropriate books, as well as their comprehension. Students have a goal set each quarter for the number of points they must earn (according to their reading ability).

Students can earn points towards their goal by taking an "AR test" about the AR book they read. Each book is labeled with an AR reading level and a number of points it is worth. For example a book labeled AR 3.5 PTS 1 means the book's level is for a student reading on a 3rd grade level about the 5 month and the book is worth 1 point towards their goal.

The 1st quarter goals for all 3rd grade students have been set between 5 and 15 points each (depending on each student's ability).  Students should be taking about 1 to 2 tests a week in order to reach their goal.

You can monitor their progress with the Home Connect tool (information below). Students can also track their progress in their AR folders at school.
