About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
Mrs. VanSolkema was born in London, England and lived all over Europe before residing in Michigan at the age of ten with her parents and sister, Ann. She has her Elementary Education Degree from Arizona State University. She has received extensive training from ASU with an endorsement in Math and Humanities. Mrs. VanSolkema is married and has three children; two girls ages 20 and 17, and a son who is 13. Our family resides in Chandler and we are very involved in ice hockey, badminton, theatre/arts, philanthropy projects and church activities. Before teaching at Eagleridge, Mrs. VanSolkema taught sixth grade at Chandler Unified School District. Mrs. VanSolkema strongly supports the homeschooling program, because she had two very close friends who had their children attend Eagleridge for many years. They were thrilled that Eagleridge gave them the opportunity for additional enrichment outside of the homeschooling environment.
Mission Label:
Mission
The mission of all my classes is that I believe all children are naturally curious, have a desire to learn, and have the ability to achieve greatness. As a teacher, I will be a positive role model and focus on a proactive role in my classroom. I intend to furnish my students with a safe and positive environment and provide them the necessary tools for a successful foundation for future learning. In doing so, I will adapt to the different learning styles. A balance of personal and academic skills will be achieved in my classroom to successfully challenge individuals and increase their personal performance. I believe that teachers and parents share the responsibility of the learning process. Parental involvement plays a vital role in the academic success of children. It enables children to see their parents as important and concerned members of the school environment, while providing parents with opportunities to view their child in the school setting. Parents will always be the first teacher in their children's lives; it is my job to enhance what they have learned at home.
