Science

Welcome to a new school year.  Our science curriculum utilizes the FOSS kits.  This year, your child will be learning about Weather, Diversity of Life, and Models & Designs. Please see my Science links to learn more about the FOSS curriculum and modules.
Your child will need a duo-tang folder and a draft book. Since most of the learning will take place in the classroom, you will not see a lot of homework.

Next week, we will be starting our Weather unit.  In this unit, your child will learn about the Earth’s atmosphere, weather, and water.  Understanding weather is more than reading a thermometer and recording air-pressure measurements.  Students will learn about extreme weather and how to prepare for an emergency, atoms and molecules, changes of state, the atmosphere and it gases, pressure, compression, and heat transfer.

Within this unit, your child will develop abilities to do and
understand scientific inquiry; including but not limited to:
• Design and conduct scientific investigations.
• Use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data.
• Develop descriptions, explanations, predictions, and models using evidence.
• Think critically and logically to make the connections between evidence and
explanations.
• Communicate scientific procedures and explanations.
• Use mathematics in scientific inquiry.
• Understand that different kinds of questions suggest different kinds of
scientific investigations; current knowledge guides scientific investigations; mathematics and technology are important scientific tools.
