PROJECT TITLE: “BOOK IN A BAG, A CAN, AN OATMEAL BOX…”

 

DUE DATE: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2010

 

BOOK GENRE: Fiction

 

LATES: THERE WILL BE NO LATE PROJECTS ACCEPTED. THIS REPORT IS ISSUED SIX WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

 

GUIDELINES:

 

After choosing and reading a book, select a book report container. The container may be a large paper bag, a coffee can, a cereal box, an oatmeal container, or anything else that might be appropriate for this project. Decorate the containers to convey some of the major details, elements, or themes found in the book. (20 pts)

 

Contents of the container must include the following:

 

Questions: Write ten questions based on the book. Five of the questions can be about general content, but the other five must require thought and interpretation. (20 pts)

 

Vocabulary: Create a ten-word glossary of unfamiliar words from the book. Include a short definition for each word. (40 pts)

 

Items: Include five items that have a connection to the story. (20 pts)

 

Summary:  Include a brief description of the setting, characters, conflict, and plot. All responses must be in complete sentence form. (40 pts)

 

THE WRITTEN PORTIONS OF YOUR REPORT MUST BE TYPED. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER, YOU NEED TO LET ME KNOW PRIOR TO THE ASSIGNMENT’S DUE DATE.

 

Format for the written portions:

  • Double-spaced, Times New Roman, and a font size of twelve.
  • A proper heading typed in the upper left hand corner of the first page (name, date, class period, and assignment title).
  • The title must be centered and underlined or italicized on the first line of the report with the author’s name centered underneath it.

 

Have someone edit your paper before turning in your final draft! 

 

PRESENTATION

The final part of the project is a presentation.   Your presentation should include a description of your book and how it relates to the story. You must explain what your five items are, and tell the class why you chose them. (40 pts)
