Often, AEP students are challenged initially to manage homework given
from two different teachers. Here is a list of suggestions created by some
former AEP students.
Strategies for Getting Your Work Done on Time.
1. Start right away.
2. Do your class work; then do the AEP work.
3. If you have spare time, get it out and work on it.
4. Do the AEP reading for your 30 minutes of nightly reading.
5. Plan a specific time to do the work.
6. Write notes on the calendar or responsibility chart about when it’s due or
what you’ll work on.
7. Break the whole assignment into chunks and spread it across the week or month.
8. Use the MAC homework time to get work done.
9. If you are having trouble, ask for help before it is due.
A common question from parents about homework is this: My student does
not have enough challenging homework; What can we do?
1. Talk with the teacher about possible enrichment work or extra credit.
2. Try extra-curricular activities such as chess club, sports, or Mad Science.
3. Develop "Family Homework" - Ex. - Have a book that the family is reading
together and make a puppet show to share it with neighbors or friends.
4. Use pre-purchased workbooks for extra practice.
5. Play educational board games or card games.
